Growing Together Garden

In 2013 Plymouth Church in partnership with College Hill Elementary School put in a permanent, sustainable community garden on the school grounds, across the street from our church. In addition to addressing issues of hunger and nutrition for at-risk children, our goal for this long-term program is to develop opportunities for teaching leadership and service skills to a new generation of young people, introducing elementary students to a hands-on science curriculum for growing food, promoting sustainable farming, cultivating a healthy environment, and teaching healthy eating and nutrition.

In our first season of growing we produced 138.5 pounds of vegetables that were distributed to College Hill students and to the Kansas Food Bank. Planting for this season will be done by Vacation Bible School participants during the week of June 4-8. Summer Latch Key students at College Hill Elementary School will be responsible for watering during the summer months.

We can always use help weeding! If you are interested in volunteering in our garden please contact Rev. Karen Robu at krobu@plymouth-church.net or 316-684-0221.
